Internet of my stuffs – Fem tech and sextoys / L’internet delle mie cose – Femtech e sex toy

Uno sguardo critico (ma anche no) sulle tecnologie per il benessere delle donne. Per FemTech si indicano gli oggetti per la salute delle donne che acquisiscono intelligenza accedendo a informazioni del nostro corpo, come le app che tengono traccia dell’ovulazione e del flusso mestruale, o i sextoys che misurano gli orgasmi. L’internet delle (mie) cose mappa il nostro corpo fisico restituendoci un’identità elettronica, ma i nostri dati biometrici diventano proprietà di società private. Il tema sulle femtech, come quello degli assistenti, anzi, delle assistenti virtuali, non riguarda solo i dati e la privacy, ma anche gli algoritmi, i codici, il design. Dalla rappresentazione visiva, agli oggetti dedicati alla cura di se e degli altri, il design è un processo di rappresentazione che sintetizza le disuguaglianze di genere, razza e classe della società. /////////////////// A critical (but also non-critical) look at technologies for women's well-being. FemTech refers to women's health objects that acquire intelligence by accessing information about our bodies, such as apps that track ovulation and menstrual flow, or sextoys that measure orgasms. The internet of (my) things maps our physical bodies, giving us an electronic identity, but our biometric data become the property of private companies. The issue of femtech, like that of assistants, or rather virtual assistants, does not only concern data and privacy, but also algorithms, codes and design. From visual representation, to objects dedicated to the care of oneself and others, design is a process of representation that synthesises the inequalities of gender, race and class in society.
